The Pleasant Run Poetry Write is now history. It culminated in the Pleasant Run Poetry Night on November 12, 2010.

How it Happened
A small committee made up of Lucile Dade (DeSoto Public Library Director), Marq Runnels (Circulation Supervisor), Glenn and Helen Currier met three or four times in October and the beginning of November to plan and make decisions about a special poetry project that they called The Pleasant Run Poetry Write. Fliers were made and distributed to the Civic Center and several businesses in town. The electronic marquee and this website were used to announce the project.

The idea for the project came from Glenn Currier, but it became a community effort made possible by the wonderful partcipation and cooperation of the DeSoto Public Library staff. Lucile Dade was interested in supporting a poetry society for DeSoto and in that first meeeting between her and Glenn Currier they came up with the idea of a community-wide poetry project. The goal would be to promote creativity and poetry as well as a sense of community and pride in our town of DeSoto, Texas. Citizens of DeSoto were asked to write a one page poem containing the paired words: pleasant run.

One of the teachers at Ruby Young Elementary School encouraged her students to write poems for the project and several did so and submitted their poems. Two of students read their poems on Pleasant Run Poetry Night.
